What's included / how it works
Portugal doesn't have a "sworn translator" title, and no personal stamp that makes a translation automatically valid everywhere. What actually happens is this: the translator signs a formal declaration stating the translation is accurate and complete, and that declaration is made — and attached to the document — before a notary, a lawyer or a *solicitador*. That declaration, not a translator's personal credential, is what makes the translation "certified" in Portugal.
Whether that's enough on its own depends on where the document is going. Some destination countries also require an apostille — a certificate, issued under the 1961 Hague Convention, that authenticates the document for use abroad. We'll tell you plainly, before you order, whether your destination is likely to need one; we can't guarantee acceptance by a foreign authority we don't control, and we won't claim otherwise.

Notarisation is the certification step itself — the translator's declaration made before a notary, lawyer or solicitador — and it's included in every certified package. An apostille is a separate certificate some destination countries require on top of that. It's an add-on because not every document needs one.
