NATIVE TO ENGLAND, LOCAL DO PORTUGAL

PROFESSIONAL LANGUAGE SERVICES

PT > EN Translation

Tudo na mesma como a lesma? Unfortunately, we Brits don’t describe our days via slug similes, but it’s just as well: I can never say my day as a translator was ‘sluggish’!

If you’d like your work to reach a wider audience but don’t feel confident to venture alone into the bonkers world of English (who really understands prepositions in any language other than their own?), I’d be delighted to help!

Whether you write for a living or for fun, I’ll treat your text with care and attention, maintaining your personal tone and register whilst conveying your ideas in clear, eloquent English. It’s my firm belief that you needn’t sound boring to be clear.

EN Proofreading

We’ve all been there: you’ve read your own writing 3 times over and you’re still just not sure. Did you catch everything? Is that really how an English person would say it?

Let me answer that for you – I am English, after all!

I have a keen eye for detail and love making a sentence sound its best… especially those annoyingly long sentences when you’ve got too many ideas flowing out of your fingers all at once.

Whatever your chosen style, rest assured your own voice won’t get lost while I make sure it flows smoothly to a native ear.

I’m Naomi.

Nice to e-meet you!

My line of work doesn’t require much face-to-face interaction (none, in truth), but it’s always nice to know who we’re working with, don’t you think?

Born and bred in Leicester (‘Less-tuh’), life’s brought me via St Andrews, Glasgow, Maidstone, Edinburgh, Budapest and Lisbon to just outside Coimbra, where Portuguese countryside living has stolen my heart for good. These various international adventures consolidated my long-held belief in the importance of language, from failing to get past ‘please mind the gap’ in mind-boggling Hungarian to delving deeper into the achingly beautiful Portuguese world of Fado.

Like many graduates, I fell into my first job after graduating in Classics (MAhons) from the University of St Andrews. The Countrywide graduate management scheme in lettings and property management provided a wealth of business experience, and I continued working for them in acquisitions and staff training until the chance arose to live in Budapest for 6 months, where I started teaching English as a foreign language.

I completed my CELTA training (Pass B) at International House Lisbon that same year, and have been teaching ever since. Portugal’s played an ever-increasing role in my life over the past 10 years (much to my delight), and I finally live here, living the dream and raising bilingual children. I mention them because they’re not only a pretty big part of my recent CV, but also a source of endless linguistic intrigue.

From deciphering Ancient Greek and Latin texts to training new staff in office etiquette and sales techniques, from teaching 300+ teenagers in classrooms to working out the needs of my own small children, I’ve always been helping others convey what they want and need to say. I was lucky enough to befriend a brilliant translator here in Portugal, who helped me realise that this is where life has been leading me all along – in fact, I was translating and proofreading long before I called myself a translator.

Now it’s official: I’m just a message away, ready to help you find the words you need.

It’s been a pleasure working with Naomi Teles Fazendeiro! Her work is careful, competent and rigorous, and she pays great attention to the specifics of a translation’s context. Naomi is also extremely accessible, empathetic and solution-oriented both personally and professionally, which makes communicating and working with her a positive, easy experience.

Sara Reis

Freelance Designer

Naomi has been proofreading my business blog posts and newsletters, and I’m very happy with the final texts. She has a deep understanding of the English language and culture as well as excellent writing skills. As a non-native writer, I completely trust Naomi to polish everything I write and would definitely recommend her services to others.

“Words travel worlds. Translators do the driving.”
